Doh! Fun With Small Wads of Clay

My fave-fave thrifty purchase lately was a bag of "Halloween" Play-doh minis on clearance at Target for $2.50 the day after Halloween. We got 20 tiny containers of colorful dough for 13 cents each! Holla! Otto's excited too...

So pretty much on the daily this week we've been incorporating play-doh into our fun/craft time...

At first Otto was hesitant to handle the stuff. A totally new and weird tactile experience. But as he got more and more comfortable he went from pushing his fingers into it, to cutting and cookie cutting it, to wadding it up and squeezing it in his fist as hard as he can! Super intense style!

Haha, I just noticed that his highchair says "Dishwasher Safe Tray". Oh my god, I've been hand-washing it for almost 2 years! I will consider this the universe's gift to me for the night. Anyways...

I posted the above pic on Facebook the other day and caught some friendly sh*t for the Sublime t-shirt from my little bro. Yes Otto is wearing a shirt with an image where the sun's rays are sperms. And the contraband hidden in its face is definitely a lil inappropriate for a near two year old. And I don't care... 40oz. to Freedom was like a defining album of my youth and I scored this T at Lil' Traders for $3!

Ps. The other t-shirt Ot is wearing in these pics is a vintage 70's Darth Vader T that I found at a thrift store when I was 20. It was $1. Can you freaking believe that? I am the king.

And Otto isn't the only one who's been rockin the Play-doh...

Do you like how I sprinkled realistic moondust particles all over the table to capture a lifelike image of "Neon Caterpillar in Space" ... I'm nothing if not a realist. It took forever to find dust in my house. So clean.

We also played with mini cookie cutters. Sorry for how busy the following picture ended up. But you can see my cookie cutter play-doh skills in action...

We got the Transportation Cookie Cutter set at CSN stores for $10 (not an ad, just in case you were interested). It's also available with free shipping over at Amazon (that is my Amazon Associates link, so if you hate AA just go to Amazon and do a search, it'll come up).

Doh fun fun fun! Here's Otto as my favorite 80's detective (who looked like my dad): Magnum P.I.
Oh, in one of this blog's earliest posts my friend Kate shared recipes for homemade dough, sandy dough, and flubber. You can find those here (I'm yet to try them but I will soon now that we're dough freaks!)

He is so cute! Harper has seen play-doh for a long time since big bro plays with it, and she STILL eats it. Gross! She's such a stinker sometimes!!!

You have a scheduled craft time? I am such a slacker mum. Crawls into cave. Rethinks cave and heads of for gelato. Dear me, the new gelato place by campus is fabulous.

Love it. I had bought 3 packs of that dough for Halloween. Every year I put out candy, every year it is always there. This year some teens stole it all and bragged to our neighbor. SONOTCOOL
Love the Magnum PI!

You guys are the coolest! Thanks for sharing in my play-doh fun. It sounds like I'm the last one to figure out how fun it is! What can I say... I don't remember having play-doh growing up this is new to me :)

so funny! you really make me want to like play doh - but when my girls were little it gave me a giant headache. not cuz of chemicals or anything, but because it always turned into a mess - so we banned the stuff. MAYBE, I will let O play with it....MAYBE!

This post made me realize the tragic extent of my OCD tendencies as I wanted to email you immediately and tell you how bothered I am about all the mixing of the different colors. LOL

Otto is too cute! It looks like you two had such fun!!

(oh...and I'm totally not kidding...I'm a horrible mother who does not let her children mix play dough colors...ever.)

Lindsey you are killing me!!! I just read your WHOLE blog front to back at work and I had tears in my eyes from holding it in...the laughter that is, not anything else, I know how crazy mom's heads work...so yeah, thanks for making my slacker day all that more delightful. BTW, what is a WAHM?? Sounds hot. xoxox,

This looks like so much fun! I am too scared to give B playdoh since she eats everything :/ Maybe I'll give it a try though.

Oh, K, the more I know about you the more I fall madly in love with you! I self-enforced the "no mixing dough" rule on myself as a kid. That is SO ME! But with Otto I'm trying to be a little more wild - especially with 13 cent cans. Maybe I can inspire you to mix it up a little?? haha!

Sarah thank you for not pooping at work all day just for me! You have no idea how much I miss your blog! Oh, and you, in person. So much!

Mama H - IDK, I've heard some kids gobble up the doh! Yak! Luckily Otto hasn't tried it yet. ::knocks on wood::

*Giggles* Actually, you DID inspire me... I found a whole bag of older play-dough that I felt semi-okay with letting my 4 year old do as she pleased with. When I said she could have all the colors out at the same time, she looked at me with wide-eyed wonderment as if to say, "Who is this pod person?!?" and she dove in. Later, I heard her tell my mom, "Hey Nana! Guess what! Mommy likes letting me mix play-dough now!"

Awesome! I feel like I should charge you for this breakthrough, haha! Love it. Love!
