currently... i forgot to tell you something

The deal: Use our themes or use your own - just let us know what is 'currently' going on with you. Be sure to stop by and say hello to the other bloggers linking up - especially to my amazing co-host Randalin of Kale & Beans.

This week's themes:
eating, feeling, picturing, wearing, loving

I'm looking forward to Eating all the Easter eats this weekend. Otto has requested rainbow pancakes so we are planning a big fun breakfast on Sunday morning. And after eggs are properly hunted that morning, I will be making exactly 24 deviled eggs... and then personally eating something like 21 deviled eggs by Sunday night. Also, peeps in the house!

Loretta has been Feeling like she forgot to tell us something. All day long. It's the sweetest thing and I bet it's a phase that doesn't last long, but she's been introducing all kinds of insights this week by saying, "I forgot to tell you something," and then when she has your ear, she'll say something like, "my have long curly hair," or, "you wanna play castle with me?"

Otto has been Picturing himself growing up to be a double artist (dancer and drawer). And if he's anything like his weirdly talented father (and amazing freestyle dancer mother) I could totally see this happening. Yesterday morning he made some Weird Al fan art that (of course he did) and well, I'll just show you...

As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain. Ha... It is abnormal how many Weird Al lyrics I know at this point. Oh my gosh, boys.

I'm super looking forward to Wearing tank tops and cut offs, but we aren't quite there yet. I love summer clothes when it's actually warm and sunny. Last weekend was a tease of Spring/Summer but it's been cold and rainy again for days and cold and rainy is pretty much the forecast. So for now I'm just dreaming of sunshine and lazy summer outfits and maybe Birkenstocks this summer because they're finally, FINALLY cool again and that's fantastic.

Hmmm, I'm Loving my kids being 3 and 6. Like actively just loving the shit out of it. This is a magic age and I'm just loving it.

That was this week & here are next week's theme's:
spending, running, feeling, resisting, needing

yard kids

Last weekend, with Nana and Papa's help, we turned a sandbox into a garden for the kids. This weekend the kiddos went to work planting pansies and mums (I think) in their little garden box along with other yard activities that have all warmed my cold, dead Oregon wintered heart. Otto peed in the grass. THAT IS WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT. Loretta got angry at dirt she threw in her own face. That's my girl. The grownups had a beer and mowed and I turned up a 5' x 4' patch of yard for future gardening. I'll be starting my seeds this week and so cleared out a shelf in the laundry room to get those guys going. Can't wait to see the little sprouts start coming up. Beets and tomatoes and all kinds of veggie goodness. Also? I am hard-core dreaming about a worm composter. But who isn't?

he scoots; she strolls

Now that we live in a house with a chalk-able front walk and picnic-able grass there is probably going to be a lot of, "haven't I see these pictures before?" around these parts all spring and summer. Hopefully we'll start adding some backyard kiddie pool and gardening pictures to the mix soon. My garlic in the crisper sprouted so I'm hoping to throw those cloves in the ground today and add blueberry bushes and some other things out back in the coming month...

Baby girl's hair is finally starting to grow a bit. I love her big bald head; at the same time it's exciting to see the beginnings of soft curls start to appear at the nape of her neck. Her strawberry blonde coloring seems to be sticking around as well -- nearly red in certain lights, mousy like mama's in others. She's so beautiful to my eyes and so much like her brother in appearance, yet very much her own fierce self in disposition. I think the dirt on her skirt, the scuffs on her shoes, that ornery tongue, and the light in her eyes tell the story...

Ot is such a b-o-y-boy I suddenly realize. I am so used to referring to him as my toddler, but really I suppose that time has passed. He whips around on his scooter while shooting pretend light sabers "hotter than pizza blood!" and has long, bruised, colt-like boy legs that he unselfconsciously shows off while running around the house in his undies. Dude is a super-hero-battles-obsessed semi-nudest (this thrill for battles and about bad guys is something he picked up at school; something he doesn't exactly understand and that we never encouraged and that kind of horrifies me; so funny how boys are just... boys) and there is no toddling.

In fact, Loretta is the one beginning to toddle.

And time marches on. How bittersweet but sweet nonetheless.

ps. Loretta's apple skirt was a sweet gift from my cherished friend, Alana, and comes from Ashley's Ark.

a family visit

Rob's spring break started on Saturday and we kicked off the week with a visit from his sister, mom, dad, and our two nephews this past weekend. Four little cousins aged four and down is the makings of a cuteness party -- also a party that is hard to photograph all at once and usually has at least one little crier and/or one little napper in the bunch.

I sure miss living near to our family and having everyone in town was just a couple of days of magic.

The next few days will speed by as days do and I am looking forward to maybe taking a little time off of work Friday to spring break it UP with my husband, toddler, and baby. We are thinking of dying eggs Friday afternoon and then I need to throw together some Easter fun for the kids. Otto is at an age where he remembers every sweet detail of the holidays so I need to get on it and pull together a special basket for Easter. He was bonkers for his giant chocolate bunny last year so that's an easy one and then some other special little craft items and non-candy snacks is what I'm thinking.

And then deviled eggs need to happen, because priorities.

family outings

it's spring break around our crazy little house with Otto's preschool taking the week, Rob's school taking the week, and myself and Loretta enjoying our maternity leave. i love that we can all be together this week. it feels like a little family vacation. amazingly (cuz we are so amazing), we were brave enough to leave the house as a family twice in the past two days... and i hope to get out every day this week to give Otto some fun outings and (wishful thinking) get a little sunshine on my pasty pale face.
this is us at CostCo yesterday and lordy, lordy we did some DAMAGE. intentional damage. i wanted to stock up Y2K style so we wouldn't have to make as many small trips to the regular grocery and honestly to save a little dough in the long run.

it was awesome. although i hesitated to show this picture. dudes, i look as tired as i feel but i didn't realize i looked so tired! on the short list of to-dos in the next week or so is hair dye, hair cut, and get some sunshine on my poor pale face. yeek.

here is someone way better looking... shades thief! cowboy extraordinaire!
today's outing was a picnic lunch at the park with this starlet who boldly told anyone who would listen, "i used to be three but now i'm three and a quarter!"  and then shook his walking stick at them :)

AND! it was actually sunny today. AND! when the clouds weren't in the way, it was even warmish. BUT! mostly it was cloudy, windy, and cold.

Loretta (who is quite vocal about her general dissatisfaction, haha! she is so mellow but so impatient too and goes from zero to furious all the time, then back to zero as soon as we fix whatever she is upset about, usually hunger) is four score against chilly wind, it turns out. even when bundled up snug in a moby wrap, if even the tinyest gust of chilly wind eeked in she let out a howl of sheer anger. she is quite the bossy pants, guys! i love it! i love how different she is from how Otto was (although i recall he seriously had a bone to pick with wind too) and i love that she is a demanding little grouch and a sweet snuggly cuddle bug all at the same time.

love.

i've been really terrible about taking pictures but i seriously promise to be better. i know i'll regret that i'm not going picture crazy right now. but i just feel so "in the moment" 24/7 lately that it's been hard to remember to bring out the cam. i need to though. seriously.

is it anyone else's spring break right now? are you enjoying family time? good weather? hopefully better weather than us! boo rain! well anyways, i wish you all loads of sun-shiney family time this week.
